MECANO ID Laureate of ESA ARTES Program for Competitive Composite Products for Satcom

This past summer, the European Space Agency (ESA) has selected MECANO ID in the frame of the ARTES Core Competitiveness programme, with the support of the French space agency (CNES).

The selected project is named Citrus for Competitive Composite Products for Satcom project. It has the objective to increase the maturity of composite structural products manufactured by Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) process and applied to telecommunication satellites.

Citrus project will be hosted in the Space Structures Business Line of MECANO ID where the aimed applications are hyperstable composites structures (tubes, struts, booms) for reflectors, antennas, or optical telecommunication applications.

Citrus will focus in upgrading quality, lead-time, serialisation, and performance repeatability in terms of stiffness and stability. The project is expected to last for 12 months, closing in 2022.

All potential end-users for these applications are invited to contact MECANO ID for sharing requirements and expected level of performance.

Mecano ID thank CNES for its confidence and constant support in this project.

About ESA

The European Space Agency (ESA) is Europe’s gateway to space. ESA is an intergovernmental organisation, created in 1975, with the mission to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space delivers benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world. European Space Agency (esa.int).

The Telecommunications and Integrated Applications Directorate (TIA) supports innovation to boost the competitiveness of European industry in the global space market. This involves a wide range of activities, from space-based technology, systems, product for telecommunications development to the down-to-Earth application of space-based services. It also calls for engagement with a wide range of industrial, academic, and institutional partners.
