Starting from May 2, 2022, the new PRISMA data policy will come into effect. This policy will allow organizations to send registration requests to use PRISMA for commercial services. However, the commercial exploitation of PRISMA Derivatives products will only be permitted to users who register as a group with the Main User belonging to an organization with operational headquarters in Italy and active in the field of Earth observation. The group composition, excluding the Main User, is not subject to further restrictions and is open to users of any nationality and affiliation. Despite commercial exploitation, users will still receive images free of charge.
The new data policy aims to expand the PRISMA user community by promoting the development of hyperspectral data processing technologies and enabling organizations with adequate know-how to profit from the sale of innovative services based on PRISMA data. Additionally, non-national organizations’ participation in the commercial exploitation of PRISMA data could potentially improve Italian industrial capacities.
