SSDC Enhances and Archives LICIACube Data for ASI

The LICIACube ASI mission is on its way to witness the first voluntary impact with an asteroid, in order to test the planetary defense deflection technique called “kinetic impactor”. The cubesat was designed and manufactured by the Argotec company and involved several Italian research centers. Apart from funding and leading the mission, ASI is also responsible for data management and dissemination through the Scientific Operations Center (SOC), managed by the Space Science Data Center (SSDC). The SOC paper, recently published on the “Planetary Science Journal”, describes archival techniques that make the data compliant to the Planetary Data System requirements (PDS4 format), together with the processes needed for data calibration. The data will be made available to teams as soon as it is sent to Earth directly from the spacecraft. LICIACube data at SSDC will also be included in MATISSE, a web tool that allows for 3D visualization and quick and accurate image analysis.
