TRAD PARTICIPATES IN AN INTER-LABORATORY COMPARISON

OUR PANORAMIC IRRADIATION ROOM, GAMRAY, OFFERS A HIGH QUALITY SERVICE BY RESPECTING THE IRRADIATION PROCEDURES IN ACCORDANCE TO MIL-STD, ESA/SCC, ASTM OR OTHER SPACE AND NUCLEAR SPECIFICATIONS. THIS AREA ALLOWS DOSE RATES FROM 10RAD/H TO 3.6 KRAD/H WITH AN ENERGY THAT INCLUDES TWO MAIN GAMMA LINES AT 1.17 AND 1.33 MEV.

In 2021, we decided to participate in an inter-laboratory comparison with three other Co-60 irradiators with the European Space Agency ESA-ESTEC, as the lead coordinator of this inter-calibration.  All testing laboratories involved in this comparison have the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

The purpose of this study was to compare the dosimetry of each laboratory (Kerma in air and dose in water), in order to assess their consistency of measurements as dosimetry is a key element to ensure confidence in the total dose tests of EEE components.

The exercise was performed by comparing the target doses measured with each laboratory measurement chain versus reference alanine dosimeters (NPN, AERIAL).

In conclusion, this inter-laboratory comparison validates the good practices of our irradiation facility, by demonstrating the adequate consistency of the photon gamma radiation dosimetry methods to the level required by ESCC 22900 and MIL test methods.

A visual presentation of this comparison, in poster form, was featured at the 2022 edition RADECS.
