Airbus has announced the development of two new MetOp-SG satellites, which will provide a wealth of meteorological data to improve numerical weather prediction at both regional and global levels. The satellites will also be used to monitor climate change, atmospheric chemistry, air pollution, hydrology, land use, and oceanography. The MetOp-SG series comprises six units in total, with three in each series. The A series carries optical and atmospheric instruments, while the B series hosts microwave instruments. The first MetOp-SG-A satellite has completed its mechanical tests and is set to undergo thermal vacuum testing in space-like conditions. The MetOp-SG-B satellite has also been integrated and is about to undergo environmental testing. The first launch of the MetOp-SG mission is scheduled for 2025.
