Raytheon Technologies has enlisted CesiumAstro to provide phased array communications payloads for its contract with the Space Development Agency (SDA) for the Tranche 1 Tracking Layer. The Vireo active electronically scanned array (AESA) radio frequency (RF) communications payload will be used for Raytheon’s seven-vehicle missile tracking satellite constellation. CesiumAstro’s Ka-band, multi-beam communications system will be the first of its kind in the SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA). The AESA technology will allow for the swift transfer of critical information and give military forces a decisive advantage, according to David Broadbent, president of Space and C2 at Raytheon Intelligence and Space.
