Northrop Grumman has completed the Critical Design Review and software demonstration for the US Space Force’s Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC), according to a statement by the company. The programme will now focus on testing key subsystems later this year. The DARC system will provide a broader view of deep space objects 24/7 in all weather, unlike the Northrop Grumman Ground-Based Electro-Optical Deep Space Surveillance System telescopes, which are affected by poor weather and cloud cover. The first DARC radar is set to field in the Indo-Pacific region in 2025, with the possibility of two more being deployed.
