Rivada Space Networks, a space technology company, has announced its participation in the Astra Carta initiative to accelerate space sustainability. The initiative was launched by the Sustainable Markets organization and aims to realize the vision for space sustainability outlined by His Majesty King Charles III at the UK Government’s Summit for Space Sustainability in 2022.
During the Global Leaders on Space Sustainability Symposium held in London, Ann Vandenbroucke, Chief Regulatory Officer at Rivada Space Networks, attended a ceremony at Buckingham Palace where His Majesty King Charles III unveiled the Astra Carta seal. This seal marks the launch of the Sustainable Markets Initiative Astra Carta framework, which aims to accelerate efforts and goals towards space sustainability.
Rivada Space Networks is proud to be a signatory of the Astra Carta principles and is committed to holistic space sustainability. The company is already working with OKAPI:Orbits to provide its constellations with satellite mission-analysis tools and collision avoidance and de-orbiting strategies. This demonstrates Rivada’s commitment to using space responsibly and applying the highest standards in terms of space sustainability and debris mitigation.
Space sustainability is becoming increasingly important as technological progress increases accessibility and unlocks new use cases, particularly in low earth orbit (LEO). It is crucial to avoid damage to key space infrastructure and ensure the continued potential of space here on Earth.
Rivada Space Networks is preparing to launch a first-of-its-kind LEO constellation that will offer access to a secure satellite network with pole-to-pole reach. The system architecture of this constellation creates the first true “OuterNET” by combining inter-satellite laser links with advanced onboard data routers. This creates a global mesh network in space that delivers ultra-secure and highly reliable global connectivity for various industries such as telecom, enterprise, maritime, energy, and government services. The first satellite launch is scheduled for 2025, with global service starting in 2026.
Declan Ganley, CEO of Rivada Space Networks, emphasized the company’s commitment to responsible space use and the success of their satellite constellation. He described the OuterNET as a unique global network that provides ultra-secure, highly reliable, and low-latency communications anywhere on the globe using space alone for data transmission.
Rivada Space Networks will continue to work closely with the global space community to ensure the responsible use of space and the success of their groundbreaking satellite constellation.
