The European Space Agency plays a pivotal role in fostering innovation and supporting start-ups within the space technology sector. Through initiatives like the ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) programme, ESA provides resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to emerging companies. This support is crucial for start-ups like Motion Products, a Hungarian company that has developed a monitoring system for industrial and transportation facilities.
Motion Products’ Monitoring System Development
In response to the ever-evolving landscape of technology and innovation, Motion Products developed a monitoring system for industrial and transportation facilities. Using satellite-based motion analysis (radar interferometry), the Hungarian start-up is developing a system that meets specific market demands.
In contrast to conventional approaches that usually focus natural disaster assessments, Motion Products provides clients with a sophisticated solution customised to their requirements. At the core of their mission is the development of a web application with easy-to-use mapping and data analysis functions, which leverages on satellite technology to monitor the movements of industrial and transportation facilities. This approach aims at operational optimisation, facility monitoring enhancement, and streamlined maintenance to provide a cost-effective service.
Two of the founders, Attila Molnár and András Zelenka-Hegyi, each having several years’ experience in the space industry, navigate both the beauty and challenges of the sector. They recognise the industry’s uniqueness and the competitive landscape of the market. Due to the potentially ubiquitous use of the proposed solution, their primary target is currently the Hungarian market, but with prospects to scale to the European market.
The Motion Products team of four people has been working together for over a decade. With expertise in remote sensing, cartography, and computer engineering, they not only share a passion for their craft but a common bond through rock climbing and orienteering.
Leveraging Past Experience and ESA BIC Programme
The founders were already involved in previous GIS and EO projects in Hungary. Participating in the ESA BIC programme has been a valuable opportunity for Motion Products, helping them connect with the dynamic Hungarian space community. The company plans to leverage on these connections for future collaborations and partnerships, aligning with their overarching goal of positioning themselves as innovators in the space technology sector.
“The ESA BIC Hungary incubation programme has been a great help for us! It provided a framework for our work and opened opportunities in the domestic space sector. It moved us forward in the direction of better developing our business plan and finalising our website, where our services and our company’s portfolio can be found”.
As they embark on their journey of growth, they serve as an inspiration for start-ups within the space technology sector, navigating the business landscape with precision and innovation.
