The lower and upper stages of the Ariane 6 launch vehicle for the combined tests on the launch pad have arrived at Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana.
The lower stage was made at ArianeGroup’s Les Mureaux site in France, and the upper stage is from ArianeGroup in Bremen, Germany.
These two stages will be integrated by ArianeGroup in the Launch Assembly Building to form the central core for the Ariane 6 combined tests model. For the first time, the rocket and its launch pad will be tested together.
Following a two-week transatlantic sea journey, the two rocket stages arrived in French Guiana from the ArianeGroup sites in Bremen (Germany) and Les Mureaux (France).
Two container trucks took the rocket stages by road to the European Spaceport, Kourou. The two launcher stages were delivered to the new Ariane launch vehicle assembly building – part of the Ariane 6 launch complex at Europe’s Spaceport. This is where the rocket stages will be installed on the assembly line to form Ariane 6’s central core.
First, the central core will be integrated horizontally inside the assembly building, then taken to the launch pad and raised vertically. The purpose of these combined tests is to test all the interfaces and correct communications between the rocket and the ground facilities.
